Overview

- 8 Days Tour Morocco Vacations In Marrakech And Essaouira

Difficult to find Moroccan cities as different as Marrakech and Essaouira and yet each one holds an important place in our hearts! The first is an imperial city where, behind the apricot walls, hide delicate Arab-Andalusian architecture. Away from the clamor of the medina, marvelous gardens soothe the traveler, against a backdrop of the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas ... The second is a port city surrounded by Vauban ramparts, which used to be called Portuguese from Mogador. Whether you stroll on its beach caressed by the trade winds or in its medina tinged with blue and white, the ocean is never far away.

Itinerary

- 8 Days Tour Morocco Vacations In Marrakech And Essaouira

D 1/3 Days 1 to 3: MARRAKECH

Barely set foot in the Red City, no doubt, Morocco is there! The patio of your riad, the palm trees that surround the Koutoubia, the zelliges of the Bahia palace and the Ben Youssef madrasah… Without forgetting the clamor of the souks of the medina, overflowing with pottery, fruit and vegetables or even jewelry. The Jemaa el-Fna square is to be experienced at the end of the day. Before immersing yourself in its highly theatrical atmosphere, we like to sit down at one of the terraced cafes that dominate it and watch the city ignite at sunset, sipping a mint tea. It is enough to move a little away from the medina to cool off and find calm and greenery. Between the Menara basin, the Agdal olive trees and the Majorelle cacti, there is no shortage of gardens to choose from. If you prefer the silence of the desert, how about a dinner in the heart of Agafay? A delicious Moroccan meal will be served in nomad-style tents, set against the backdrop of large desert areas and the sparkling starry sky. Walking Time: 2h to 3h Meals included: breakfast, Dinner Accommodation : Hotel : Option - Confort : Option - Luxury : Steps : Marrakech

D 4/6 Days 4 to 6 : Essaouira

Seeing Morocco without going to Essaouira is a bit like visiting France without Brittany! We would miss out on the daily life of fishermen, a cuisine inspired by the sea, a marine atmosphere in blue and white ... Even the ramparts of the sqala are reminiscent of a certain Saint-Malo. Atlantic obliges, it blows hard on its beaches, which makes it a very good spot for lovers of surfing or windsurfing. The others can simply walk on the sand, lulled by the sound of waves, seagulls and the harbor auction. If the old Mogador is a city apart, it is nonetheless 100% Moroccan. The Sidi-Mohammed-ben-Abdallah museum is dedicated to traditional regional arts, while the Damgaard gallery is dedicated to local contemporary artists. The Medina, registered with UNESCO, gives pride of place to jewelry, inlaid wood and argan oils produced inland. We can just go hiking in the countryside to discover rural life ... and be amazed by the small biquettes perched in the argan trees, which they enjoy the fruit! Walking Time: 1h to 2h Driving time: 3h to 4h (195 km) Meals included: breakfast, Dinner Accommodation : Hotel : Option - Confort : Option - Luxury : Steps : Essaouira

D 7/8 Days 7 and 8 : MARRAKECH

Back in Marrakech, you can extend your discoveries with a sidecar ride, led by an expatriate who knows the capital like his pocket! An original way to (re) discover the medina, the Guéliz district or the palm grove, while discussing local life with its driver. Walking Time: 1h to 2h Driving time: 3h to 4h (195 km) Meals included: breakfast, Dinner Accommodation : Hotel : Option - Confort : Option - Luxury : Steps : Marrakech

The dirham (MAD)

The currency of Morocco is the dirham (MAD), with bank notes found in the denominations of MAD 200, 100, 50 and 20 and coins issued in smaller values. While every traveller's spending habits may differ slightly, we have estimated the average daily expenses to help with budgeting for your next trip. Here you'll find the average cost for a meal or drink and advice for best practice in tipping.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsary, but is encouraged for good service in Morocco. The general rule of thumb is to tip 5~10% in restaurants or to private services such as porters. Your guide and driver would also appreciate this kind of gratitude at the end of your tour. For Taxi Drivers, typically rounding up the fare for convenience is recommended, as well as at market stalls.

Morocco is home to some of the oldest retail cultures in the world, meaning there's no shortage of souqs waiting to be explored. Haggling in Morocco is expected and welcomed. You'll notice prices are not often listed on items in the souqs, so evaluate what you're willing to pay and come prepared to bargain with the shopkeeper - it's all part of the fun!

Leather Goods
Fez

Moroccan leather is highly unique and the centuries-old tanning techniques are still practiced across the country today. The most famous tannery is Chouara Tanner of Fez, making it the perfect place to purchase quality, hand-crafted leather goods including slippers, bags, jackets, belts and wallets. Prices for leather goods start at approximately 10 USD.

Berber Rugs
Countrywide

Berber rugs and carpets are traditionally the craftwork of nomadic women from the Middle Atlas region and date back to the 2nd century BC. They are made from virgin wool from the sheep and can be found in souqs across Marrakech in all shades, sizes and shapes. Rug shopowners will encourage you into their store with the offer of tea, but feel no obligation to buy. Rug prices may range from 50 to 1,000+ USD.

Argan Oil
Essauoira & Agadir

Used by the local Amazigh people for its healing properties, Argan Oil is immensly popular in Morocco. It is common to see women sitting on the front step of beauty shops crushing the kerns of the argan tree into paste, which is sold cosmetically for its healing properties to skin and hair. The regions surrounding Essauira and Agadir are the only places in the world where the specific tree grows. In this region you can purchase a quality 150ml bottle of the oil for approximately 20 USD.
